OpenDNA and Mayo Clinic presented a collaborative project at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) conference showcasing a new AI-powered model designed to predict coronary heart disease risk using polygenic risk scores (PRS). The study demonstrates the combined power of genetic and clinical data to support earlier, more personalized cardiovascular care.
Researchers from Mayo Clinic evaluated a group of 287 patients who had previously undergone calcium score testing. Over 15 years of follow-up, 35 coronary heart disease (CHD) events were identified through comprehensive chart reviews.
The AI model developed by OpenDNA showed a statistically significant correlation with CHD outcomes (p=0.001) and surpassed standard assessment methods like the Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE), with an AUC of 0.69 versus 0.67. When the Coronary Artery Calcium (CaC) score was included, performance rose to an AUC of 0.74. The model also achieved 80% sensitivity, 100% negative predictive value (NPV), and a 22.54% net reclassification improvement (NRI), suggesting meaningful advances in predictive capability.
